| All active copies of the ControlPoint™ software are persistently connected to the Portal Server, providing a secure connection for remote or mobile access as well as a means to activate, register, backup, and download customizations to each individual home. Every edition of Portal Server contains a Home Ecosystem Management (HEM) database of drivers and profiles of home control products, media and entertainment devices, and mobile phones enabling service providers and other Portal owners complete and flexible control of a mass rollout of a variety of device bundles. The Portal Server also provides remote maintence, real-time diagnostics, firmware image management, and other remote support functionality. This connected server-based architecture provides a powerful means to deliver a wide range of free and for-fee services to the consumer, enabling new business models for service providers, hardware vendors, and solution integrators. |
