4Home’s Alex Fedosseev co-edits Broadband Forum’s Energy Management Position Paper (MR-204)

4Home applauds the release of the Broadband Forum’s latest white paper, MR-204 “Energy Efficiency and Dematerialization: The Role of the Broadband Forum” which reviews the current state of broadband energy utilization, and establishes a roadmap of new work addressing the dematerialization impacts and power efficiency requirements of broadband networks. This paper also looks at energy measurement and management solutions for Utilities and Service Providers. Finally, MR-204 outlines a pathway for equipment consolidation due to application and network convergence resulting in efficiencies in capital, operating, and energy expenses.

“This white paper is the result of contributions from many companies, such as Occam Networks, 4Home, British Telecom, Juniper, Telecom Italia, France Telecom, Telcordia and others. I’m excited to see it published to support ongoing new standards work within Broadband Forum working groups, such as PD-174 for cascaded (proxy) energy management, which will lead to further extension of market dominant TR-069 management protocol into new areas to serve Connected Home Services“ – says Alex Fedosseev, VP of Product Management, one of two co-editors of MR-204.

“The Broadband Forum is taking a leadership role in “green telecom” by developing new standards and best practices and acting as an advocate for transformational standards which will enable a low-carbon economy” – says Kevin Foster, Broadband Forum Board Member and Head of Access Innovation at BT. – “Collectively these efforts will result in fundamental improvements in both consumer and operator energy efficiency as broadband infrastructure plays a greater role in the context of our global energy footprint. I’m very grateful to the contributors to, and especially the editors of MR-204, 4Home and Occam Networks who took the lead role and drove the completion of this white paper.”
